However, there were good ports to dreamcast, gamecube and PS2 (as well as watered down versions for PS1 and N64) so as long as you don't mind the lack of an insert coin feature you could readily emulate one of those. I don't think the arcade version of the game is emulated these days. MAME and coin-op alike are welcome here! Welcome to /r/cade! Thanks. I enjoy working on arcades, but I would much rather play them now and get to the CRT's over the winter when things slow down. Then, if I am lucky the monitor may last a year or two, and I get to do it all over again! So my $4 capacitors turn quickly into a $400+ cost. If I value my time as an "arcade repair specialist", in this area that equates to about $50 an hour. But again - how often is it that straight forward? The time alone is over a day. If all goes well, another hour to reinstall the monitor. Then another 3 hours of soldering, then reassembly and testing for 30 minutes. Wait for the parts to come in - that's another week. Clean and inspect the board for another hour, de-solder the suspect parts, get part numbers off them (assuming they are readable) and order them.probably 3 hours or more depending. But if the CRT champions in the crowd are being honest, how many times is it JUST capacitors? Say I replace the capacitors. Sure I may get lucky with $4 of capacitors and I'm done. parts can range from just pennies for capacitors to over $500 if I have to replace the monitor.
#HYDRO THUNDER ARCADE CABINET INSTALL#
To pull out the CRT and install the LCD, I'll have about 2 hours and I'll have a solution that will outlast the arcade. That cost is minimal.maybe $8 in 1/4" plywood and a $99 LCD, and of most importance to me, my time. So all I have to do is measure, and then push a button and my LCD monitor surround is done.

Among other things, I am a CNC Programmer. Let's look at Opportunity Cost - the cost of what you give up to repair a CRT. But since the subject came up, I will defend and deflect. It was meant to find a model of LCD that some of you have experimented with and like. This post was not meant to illicit the whole LCD/CRT debate. But I realize it is NEVER a simple repair. But if you will review my original post, I fully intend to repair the CRT's. "It's cheap to repair! Capacitors cost pennies! CRT's look better! That's the way the machine was made!". BRMORR is correct.$99 and a little ingenuity can yield a nice machine.īut some in the crowd say. I've owned dozens of arcades over the years and because I am not rolling in cash, I typically buy on the lower end of the spectrum. For those voices of reason in the crowd, thank you.
